About the Centre
Welcome to the Centre for Health Studies, the academic arm of the Worshipful Society of Apothecaries. Building on a 400 year history of delivering medical education and training, we are proud to continue to offer a unique range of courses, lectures, events and examinations to this day.
The Centre has cultivated a community of world-leading experts to deliver training and a network of support for its learners and global membership. The Centre responds to unmet needs in universal health and programmes events to cultivate ideas, ignite collaborations and invigorate members looking to expand their expertise and knowledge in the fields of medicine and pharmaceutical sciences.
Courses
Our expert-led courses provide practical knowledge as well as theory. Part-time and at post-graduate level, they offer a combination of in-person and online sessions. With a dedicated support area on our learning platform hosting course materials, lecture recordings and guidance on your chosen area of study, you’ll be able to study from wherever you are in the world and also enjoy the benefit of a network of like-minded individuals.

Ethics & Philosophy of Medicine
The oldest of its kind in the UK, the Ethics & Philosophy of Medicine course explores the key philosophical aspects of contemporary medicine.
History of Medicine
The History of Medicine course, explores the intersections of religion, medicine and Society. It provides a deep dive into the fascinating journey of medical practices from circa 1500 BCE to the present day.
Medicine in Conflict & Catastrophe
The Conflict and Catastrophe Medicine course is designed to provide health professionals with the necessary learning to form the basis of professional competence in humanitarian health.
